Alright, folks, I need to vent about this one because it’s been bugging me all day. Game was 1/3 at my local spot. I’d been watching this one guy, aggressive as anything, raising tons of hands and 3-betting with reckless abandon. I figured, perfect—time to capitalize.
So, the hand goes like this: He’s in the cutoff, opens to $15, folds around to me on the button with AhQh, and I bump it up to $50. He calls without hesitation.
Flop comes Kc8d4s. He checks, and I fire $40. He calls. Turn is 6h. He checks again, and I check back (thinking I can pot control and maybe get him to fire river). River comes 2c, he checks a third time, and I decide to go for $90 to rep a stronger hand.
This man INSTA-calls me with Ace-Ten offsuit. Ace-TEN. No pair, no draw, just Ace-high. I mean, I was stunned. I almost asked him if he was psychic or just plain crazy.
Here’s the kicker—this wasn’t some “random genius read.” After that, he continued calling down other players with equally questionable hands and won half of them!
I topped up but couldn’t shake the weirdness of it. Felt like the deck just didn’t want me to recover, so I packed it in after a couple of hours.
My takeaway? Don’t try to bluff these fearless types. They’re either on another level or just don’t care. Still, if he keeps calling like that, I’m going to clean him out one day. Just need the cards to cooperate!
What do you do when someone like this shows up? Adjust, or just wait for variance to do its thing?
