Indian football in 2024 was a disaster

2024 wasn’t just brutal for Indian football—it was brutal for my wallet too. I’ll admit, I put my money on India a couple of times this year, hoping for even a single win. Big mistake. Eleven matches, six losses, and five draws later, I’m sitting here regretting every rupee (and Aussie dollar) I wagered. 😑

I thought the AFC Asian Cup would be the turning point. “New year, new team energy,” I told myself. But nah, they stumbled out of the gate, and with Igor Stimac leaving in the middle of the chaos, it all unraveled. Sunil Chhetri retiring was the gut punch no one wanted, and without him, the team felt totally rudderless. Even with Manolo Marquez taking charge, they never found their rhythm.

I don’t know why I kept betting on them after the first couple of losses—call it misplaced loyalty or just stubborn optimism. But watching them score only four goals all year while conceding 15? Painful. It’s like they were allergic to winning.

At this point, Indian football needs a complete reboot. New players, new management—heck, maybe even a new mindset. But after this year, I’m staying far away from betting on them until they prove they can win again. Anyone else been burned like me betting on India, or am I the only fool here? 😅
