Matched betting in Australia: Is automation the future?

I’ve been looking into matched betting lately and wanted to see if it's still profitable in Australia, especially with recent changes in promotions and regulations. It seems like there are still plenty of opportunities, but I’ve also heard that profit margins are tighter due to stricter odds and fewer high-value promotions. Still, with over 100 bookies available, it sounds like you can make anywhere from $300 to $700 a weekend just by taking advantage of promos and laying bets, with some people hitting up to $30k before getting limited.

One thing that really caught my attention is the rise of automation. Some bettors are now using promo-bashing bots that automatically place promo bets, mug bets, and +EV non-promo bets. These bots come with dashboards that track your account PnL, send alerts to Discord, and even handle bonus bets. The idea of not having to sit at my computer every weekend is pretty appealing, especially since I prefer to spend my weekends outdoors.

That said, there are still a few concerns. Bookies are quicker to limit accounts that only take advantage of promotions, so mixing in mug bets is essential. Some users mentioned that blending in with smaller, non-promo bets can help you keep your accounts longer—up to eight months or more. Plus, while sign-up bonuses were supposed to be phased out, many bookies still offer them after a few days if you don’t place any bets right away.

As for tools, Betfair is currently the only licensed exchange in Australia, and services like BonusBank and Outmatched seem to be the go-to platforms for oddsmatching and finding value bets. I’ve also heard that arbing and middling opportunities are more common during the NBA season, especially around October.

Lastly, I’m curious about the legal side of matched betting. While it’s generally considered legal in Australia, some bookies have terms that mention contacting authorities for “fraudulent behavior,” which sounds a bit concerning. If anyone has insight into this, I’d appreciate hearing your thoughts.

So, is matched betting still worth it in Australia? And for those using automation, how reliable is it, and does it actually help you avoid account limits? Looking forward to hearing your experiences!
