Alright, let’s get real about this 2025 NFL Draft because some teams are about to make major mistakes if they don't wake up. Cleveland Browns, you guys are a mess. You’ve got the No. 2 pick, which sounds nice and all, but after burning draft capital on the Deshaun Watson disaster, you’ve got no young talent left to build around. Your roster is filled with overpaid veterans, and you think drafting Shedeur Sanders is going to save you? Please. Unless you’re 100% sure he’s the next big thing, you need to trade down and pile up picks. You’ve got the most draft capital by Chase Stuart’s model heading into April, so use it wisely for once.
And then there’s the Las Vegas Raiders. Seriously, what’s your plan? You’ve only got one first- or second-round pick from the past five years actually starting for you. The Gruden and McDaniels era did more damage than anyone can measure. The Raiders can’t even pretend they’re close to competing, so trading up would be pure stupidity. They need to trade down from No. 6 and add as much young talent as possible. Pete Carroll worked magic with extra picks when he started with Seattle, so let him work his magic again here.
Now, Detroit Lions, if you guys don’t make a big move, you’re just playing it safe for the sake of it. You’ve got one of the deepest rosters in the league with so many guys on cheap rookie deals. But you have a glaring weakness: no true edge rusher opposite Aidan Hutchinson. You’ve been relying on bandaid solutions like Marcus Davenport and Za'Darius Smith, but they can’t stay healthy or consistent. You need to trade up from No. 28 and grab someone like Mike Green or Shemar Stewart. If you really want to be taken seriously, get aggressive and make it happen.
Meanwhile, the San Francisco 49ers are about to hit a wall. They’ve been riding the Purdy contract, but that cheap labor is about to get real expensive. They’ve already blown through a ton of draft capital thanks to the Trey Lance and McCaffrey trades, and their supposed pipeline of rookie talent is drying up fast. They’ve got 10 picks, but what they need to do is trade down from No. 11 and stack up more Day 2 picks to get this team back on track before their roster ages out of competitiveness.
The Seattle Seahawks are trying to pull off a rebuild on the fly, but their offensive line is just terrible. They’re sitting there with five top-100 picks, which gives them a lot of flexibility, but the only move that makes sense is trading up to get a real offensive lineman. If they sit back and hope they find a diamond in the rough, they’re setting themselves up for more years of mediocrity.
And then there’s the Washington Commanders. This team has a young QB they can build around in Jayden Daniels, but the rest of their roster is like a retirement home. They’ve got barely anything to show for their drafts from 2020 to 2023, and most of their picks aren’t even with the team anymore. With no picks in Rounds 3 and 4 this year and an already gutted 2026 draft, they need to trade down from No. 29 and scrape together as much draft capital as possible before this whole thing collapses.
If I had to pick the biggest clowns heading into this draft, it’s the Browns and Raiders if they don't trade down. The Lions are the only team here with a real shot at making a smart, aggressive move. As for everyone else, just stop pretending you're smarter than you actually are and make the right moves for once.
Anyone else see these teams making the same old mistakes? Or am I the only one watching this dumpster fire with popcorn in hand?
