Back when I was at the Tropicana in Atlantic City about a decade ago, I witnessed a moment that still makes my jaw drop. It was at a poker table during a high-stakes Texas Hold'em cash game.
A guy in a leather jacket, clearly out to prove something, goes all-in pre-flop with 7-2 offsuit. The table goes quiet—you could feel the tension. Everyone expected him to fold after the initial raise, but nope, he shoves his entire stack of about $20k.
Two players call, both holding strong hands (I remember one had pocket queens). The flop comes 7-7-2. The table erupts in disbelief. The guy ends up taking down a pot worth over $60k with the worst hand you could start with.
I’ll never forget his smug grin as he raked in the chips like it was all part of his master plan. Maybe it was luck, or maybe he just had guts of steel. Either way, I still think about that hand when I play to this day.
What’s the craziest bet or play you’ve seen?
