Using bad beat counters to gain an edge?

So, some online poker sites have this bad beat counter that tracks how often a player is running cold or hot based on their last 10/25/100 showdowns. I’ve been wondering—how do you actually use this info to gain an edge?

My theory:

  • If a villain is running hot, they might get overconfident and start playing loose-aggressive, taking unnecessary risks.
  • If they’re running cold, they could tighten up, playing scared money.
Now, there’s also that "number of showdowns" stat, which I figure could indicate experience level. A highly experienced player probably won’t be swayed much by variance, while a casual player might tilt hard when things aren’t going their way.

Anyone here using this data to exploit tendencies? Does this match your observations, or am I overthinking this?
