So my mate Darren - yeah the same one who got me into iRacing back in 2019 - he dropped the Playzee name in our WhatsApp group about a month ago. Said he'd been messing around on it for a bit and the bonus structure wasn't totally cooked like some of the other sites he'd tried. I wasn't really looking for a new casino at the time but that's never stopped me before, has it.
Signing up was pretty smooth to be honest, took maybe five minutes to get the account open. The KYC part though - that's where things slowed down, and I know this is just how it works everywhere now but still worth flagging.
They wanted passport or driver's licence, proof of address, and because I was using a card they also wanted a photo of that. I sent everything through on a Tuesday and didn't hear back until Thursday afternoon. Not catastrophic but I've seen faster, and the waiting around when you just want to play is genuinely annoying.
The verification email came through with zero context about what step I was at. Like, am I approved? Partially approved? Do I need to do anything else? The UI around KYC could really use some work, just a little progress tracker would go a long way.
Depositing as a New Zealand player is where I was half expecting the usual runaround. Visa works fine which is honestly all I needed to hear. I put in 50 NZD to start which converted fine, and they do show balances in NZD which is a small thing but I appreciate not having to do maths every time I check my balance.
Maestro isn't really a thing here anymore so I didn't try it. Heard some Kiwis use Neosurf on these sites but I've never bothered setting that up personally.
Right, so the actual games. This is kind of why you're here and why I stuck around. The slots library is big, genuinely big. I'm talking hundreds of games and they've got stuff from Pragmatic Play which is what I usually gravitate to, and Play'n GO as well which has some of my favourites.
I spent most of my time on pokies obviously - Book of Dead is just always there calling my name - but I also poked around the live casino section which is running on Evolution tables. The live roulette lobbies looked clean and the streams weren't lagging which is sometimes an issue on slower connections.
The mobile experience on my phone was decent too, didn't need to download anything which I always appreciate.
Alright so the win story. Nothing crazy, I want to be upfront about that. I was about 80 bucks down after the first week, which felt about right honestly, and then I had a session on Sweet Bonanza where the multipliers actually hit during a bonus round. Ended up walking away from that session 140 NZD up on my starting balance. Not life-changing money but it felt great, covered a grocery shop and then some.
The point is the games do actually pay out, I wasn't just watching credits disappear the whole time.
Withdrawals - this is the one that matters. I requested a withdrawal of 120 NZD back to my Visa on a Friday. The site said to expect three to five business days which immediately made me nervous because that's a wide window.
It actually landed in my account the following Wednesday, so about four business days. Not the fastest I've ever seen but well within what they promised. No emails asking me to resubmit documents or anything like that, it just... processed.
Would've been nicer to see it hit over a weekend but I'll take it. And the full amount came through with no unexpected fees on my end, which hasn't always been the case on other sites I've used.
Now for the stuff I'm not fully sold on. The welcome bonus has wagering requirements attached that are not low. I did the maths and it's 40x on the bonus amount, which is pretty standard in this industry but let's not pretend that's a gift - it's more like a rental.
I cleared a portion of it but honestly if you're a casual player who deposits 50 bucks and isn't going to grind through hundreds of dollars of action, just opt out of the bonus and play with your real money. You'll probably have a better time.
The other thing that bugged me was the customer support response time. I had a pretty minor question about game contribution rates toward the wagering and it took about six hours to get a response through live chat - except live chat wasn't actually live, it went to some kind of ticketed system without telling me that upfront.
The answer I got was helpful when it finally came through but the labelling of it as "live chat" when it clearly isn't is a bit misleading.
So overall, my Playzee casino review verdict after three weeks of actual play - it's a legitimate site, the games are there, the withdrawal worked without drama, and Kiwis can use it reasonably comfortably in NZD.
It's probably right for someone who enjoys pokies and live casino, is patient with KYC, and doesn't need instant withdrawals. It's probably wrong for someone who wants a fast cashout or who's going to get frustrated with support not being instant.
I'd give it somewhere around a 7 out of 10. Not the flashiest site I've used, not the most frustrating either. Sits comfortably in the decent-but-not-exceptional category.
Darren is still using it so I guess that says something.
Quick reminder - 18+ only and this stuff should stay fun. If it ever stops being fun, GamStop, GamCare and BeGambleAware are there.
